5 Reasons Your Dog Is Not Eating
There are lots of reasons your dog might stop eating. From illness to new routines may cause you to have no appetite. Most of the time, they’re back to wolfing down their food within a couple of days – but I know it can be a bit worrying if your pup suddenly stops eating, so here are some reasons they might be refusing to eat.
A New Routine
Dogs love to have a routine. When you disrupted your normal routine like taking an extra long weekend, your dog might feel lost, upset, or confused. This can cause your dog to not eat when they would normally eat.
A Change In Surroundings
Moving into a new house or travelling can cause anxiety in some dogs.They can feel lost and uncomfortable so they lose their appetite until they adjust to their new environment.
When you give your dog lots of treats throughout the day or too big of portions at feeding time might mean your dog is just not hungry! Try to give your dog a set amount of food and treats each day. This will encourage your dog to be excited at meal time.
Illness or Medication
Lots of illnesses can cause your dog not to eat. It could be something as simple as an upset tummy. It could also be a sign of something serious like dental disease, kidney problems, but it’s definitely best to check with your vet if you suspect something else is going on. Some side effects of medications is loss of appetite. If your dog has just started on some new medicine, or has just had their annual vaccinations, they might be feeling off in the appetite area.
Stress, anxiety and depression can all affect your dog’s appetite. These issues are often linked to boredom, separation anxiety or the loss of a fellow dog or their owner.
